Party! It went along with the Summer theme so I decided to try it!
I saw this awesome tutorial over at {Sun Scholars} called Bite
into Summer Vacation! She got her inspiration from this
awesome site the {National Watermelon Promotion Board}
check it out they have some AWESOME watermelon carvings
I'm going definitely have to try! I didn't make my shark exactly
like these two tutorials had them due to the ingredients I
had available. So here's my version of this cool summer
Shark :) Here's how I started:

I'm going definitely have to try! I didn't make my shark exactly
like these two tutorials had them due to the ingredients I
had available. So here's my version of this cool summer
Shark :) Here's how I started:
Ingredients You'll Need:
1 Watermelon
2 Blue Jello packets
1 Bag of Swedish fish candies
2 Blue Jello packets
1 Bag of Swedish fish candies
Black Olives for eyes
Toothpicks
Round plastic tray
Foil to cover the tray
Foil to cover the tray
Large cutting knife
Small carving knife
1/2 tbs scoop (or melon baller)
1/2 tbs scoop (or melon baller)
Directions:
1.) Make Your Ocean Water
I just followed the directions on the Jello boxes and
boiled water and threw in the mixes and left the bowl
in the fridge to cool for 4 hours, so easy ;)
2.) Prepare The Round Tray
I coverd my round plastic serving tray with foil to
hold in the watermelon juice and the blue jello.
3.) Cut Your Watermelon
Here's where you'll decide what end would be a better
shark's head. Wash your watermelon and slice the opposite
end you decide will be the shark's head, slice it at an
angle so it looks like the shark's kind of jumping out
of the water :0

Next you will cut out the shark's mouth wedge out,
place the watermelon on it's side and do this very carefully.

Ta da! You have your shark MOUTH!
Next take your small knife and score around your
shark mouth about 2-3 inches deep, the score line
show you where to start peeling off the watermelon
skin. This part is tedious and kind of dangerous so
be careful with that small sharp knife! Ouch!
Don't cut yourself!
Don't cut yourself!
Can you see the score line? Now carefully carve away
the watermelon skin.. and when I say carefully, I
mean CAREFULLY! It was kind of scary working
with this little small sharp knife, I don't usually carve
anything, you'll see it didn't look the best but it
was my first try, I think I did okay!
4.) Scoop Out The Watermelon
Scoop out the inside with a 1/2 tbs scoop.. you can
also use a melon baller, I actually don't have one but
prob should get one it seems like it would have been
useful in this case and would have made the watermelon
a little more interesting but the 1/2 tbs scoop worked for me.

Set it aside for later..
5.) Carve The Teeth Out
Now here's the fun part! Carving the shark's teeth!
This was my most favorite part of this whole project,
Now here's the fun part! Carving the shark's teeth!
This was my most favorite part of this whole project,
I loved this part because you can be creative and free!
Carve little triangles on the upper and bottom parts -
for the teeth! I also placed a paper towel at the bottom
so the watermelon's a little more stable.

6.) Add The Eyes
For the eyes I used black olives since I had them on
hand, you can use blueberries, black marbles or anything
black really... you can carve out a little place that looks
like the eye socket for fun! You can even carve gills, I
didn't. For the eyes just break a tooth pick in half and
poke a small hole through the olive and then place the
toothpick into the eye socket you carved out on the water-
melon. Easy peasy!! Place eyes on both sides of the shark!
7.) Add the Shark Fin
For the shark fin your going to cut a wedge from
the remaining parts of watermelon and adhere it
on to the back of the shark with 2 toothpicks.
8.) Adding The Finishing Touches
Time to add the Ocean Water, the rest of the watermelon
scooped up and the Swedish Fish!
Scoop out your Blue jello and place it around the shark
that will sit in the middle of your covered plastic tray and
adorn with red Swedish fishes, swimming all around it!
Add back in the little cut up watermelon!
Then your done..Ready to serve!
Hope you can try this fun treat out for a party!
Your kids will definitely have fun with this one!
